Official NearbyGamers Site News

Had some issues and had to switch hosting providers for at least
the time being -- things may be running a little slow, we'll see
how it goes.
I'd post a whole technical writeup of what went wrong, but it
was just paperwork hassles that need time to get sorted out. And
that is really boring. Please let me know if you see any problems
-- it's real easy for random little things to get futzy when
changing environments. (Yes, "futzy" is the technical term.)
The database backup I restored from came from about 90m before
the crash -- I don't know if there were any messages posted or
signups that happened in there, but I'll get them back as soon as I
can. If you signed up or posted a message and don't see it, you
should probably just post again or sign up again -- I'm sorry for
the inconvenience.

And we're on shiny new dedicated hosting after that sojurn to
DreamHost's slow, slow, slow shared hosting. The site should now be
FAR faster.

Oh it is! Thank you! I've been putting my profile into my forum
profiles and was getting worried about the slowness. Today it is
very fast!

I also found a really nice tool or two for profiling, so I'm
cleaning up some dumb database stuff I didn't notice I was doing.
Discussions and profiles now do between 50% and 10% of the database
requests they used to do, so that helps a lot.
I'm working my way through the other pages as I find time.

very cool. The speed ups are fantastic. I just gotta say I like
this site. Simple, elegant, and powerful.
Thanks!
